HAUNTED HOUSE INDUSTRY PR SUCCESS

Haunted Houses rejoice in the fact that over 15 MILLION dollars worth of positive publicity showed the industry in 2006. There where feature articles in USA Today, AOL.com, CNN.com, Time.com, and we even saw segments on Good Mourning American, NBC Today Show and even a special on the Travel Channel.

The whole PR surge started several years ago when Hauntworld founder, Larry Kirchner pleaded with the industry to pull monies together to lauch such an effort. Tired of all the negative stories about the industry, Larry wanted to get a professional PR firm behind our industry.

In 2004 Larry was nominated to the board of IAHA, and then became its president. As President of IAHA (www.hauntedhouseassociation.org) he peppered the board for over a year about this effort. Finally the board agreed to fund this project but only if half the money could be raised from private haunt owners. Larry called on some of his closest friends and other IAHA haunts to push in $2,000.00 per attraction. Finally Larry raised $16,000.00 on behalf of IAHA, and IAHA pitched in an additional $14,000.00 for a total of $30,000.00

Next Larry Kirchner found a public relations firm from New York City, to meet the challenge of promoting the haunted house industry. With full support of the IAHA board, and additional support from fellow board members Ben Armstrong (Netherworld) and Brett Bertilino (Eastern State Penn)we organized and kept the PR firm on track.

The reward was breathtaking... Over 15 MILLION dollars of stories where placed about our industry, and haunts nationwide reported their biggest revenue increases in history. Please say thank you to board of IAHA for taking this risky step and putting their money into one persons dream. Not many people would have supported and effort like this it took guts but it paid off ten fold.

Next year another effort will be launched, with new goals and objectives. We can't stop here folks, now the door has been opened, now you see the power of what an industry can accomplish if it works together.
